Encoding Songs at 192 kbps using Windows Media Player 10 & 11
If you have a CD with the original wav or cda files, this is one method to
encode the songs as 192 kbps MP3 files. You may find this procedure useful for
other purposes as well.
If you have the latest version of Windows Media Player (11), you can encode
your songs by following these steps. Previous versions will follow similar steps,
but the placement of the tabs and icons may be different.
Open Windows Media Player and put your CD in your CD drive on your computer.
Click the down arrow on the "Rip" tab and select "More Options."
If you are using Windows Media Player 10, you will find the same dialogue box
under the Tools Menu, by selecting Options and then clicking on the Rip Music
tab. You should see a dialogue box that looks like the image on the right.
In the Rip Settings box, choose mp3 for the format. Near the bottom of this
dialogue box is a slide bar for Audio quality. It ranges from smallest size
on the left to best quality on the right. Slide it to the right until you see
the message "Uses about 86MB per CD (192 Kbps)" under the slide bar.
Don't change any of the other settings.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
On your main Windows Media Player Screen, select the Rip tab.
You should now see the track list for your CD. Select the tracks you want to
encode, and click on the "Start Rip" button below the track listing
(In WMP 10, click on the "Rip" button in the navigation bar above
the track listing).
Unless you change the destination, the ripped song files should now be in your
My Music folder in My Documents (WMP 11 will create a folder with the same
title as the disk). Remember this location when you go to upload your songs
to SongPlanet.com!
Please contact SongPlanet Artist Support (click here) if you have difficulties.
