The first 'vocal' is my attempt at a Paul Harvey imitation. Remember him saying "Good day?" like a question at the end of his newscasts? Anyway, that starts us with the historical setting of the song. Lyrics in second half come directly from MacArthur's farewell speech to Congress (after being fired by Truman). The famous line "Old Soldiers Never Die, They Just Fade Away" was already a line from an old song but it became indelibly imprinted upon the consciousness of an entire generation when MacArthur used it in his 'farewell' speech.
