CowboySlim - Talkin' God And Country
lyrics
Talkin' God And Country

Doncha just hate them stickers
Folks put on their cars?
You know the ones I'm talkin' about,
Unless you flew in from Mars.
They're shaped like yellow ribbons,
But the colors vary too...
Why just today I saw one,
Painted red white and blue.

Now, I'm not un-American,
I could probably make a case
For bein' a genuine patriot,
Man, I love this place.
But some things we Americans do,
They drive me up the wall...
Like equating God and country,
And Jesus loves us all.

Superman, a case in point,
Flew in from outer space.
Proclaimed he stood for Truth,
And Justice and the American Way.
This ain't the only country
Or the only way of life.
So why would the Man of Steel
Want to cause us all such strife?

Now God ain't no Republican.
He ain't no Democrat.
He ain't even American,
And now that I've said that,
Why we think He'd choose us
Is a mystery to me.
Cause though we say "In God We Trust"
We do it illegally.

Gettin' back to stickers,
And divine selection,
What if the joke's on you and me?
We can't claim perfection.
God loves me and God loves you,
He ain't particular...
Anyway, He made us all,
And He don't drive a car.

So if you think about it,
Them stickers make no sense
'Specially the red and white and blue ones,
Say "God for President"
He'll let you into Heaven
Might even take me too,
Each one of us depending
On all the good we do.
