Old soldiers and Gypsy women, Bikers with the wind in their hair. They're among these living, dying people, I found some of my missing pieces there. I strapped my sleeping bag onto my beat up motorcycle. My friends all told me that I shouldn't go. But hangin' with a bunch of crazy bikers, Was a journey that their small minds couldn't go I rode into the woods and found the party. Picked up a girl who broke down on the way. I didn't know these drunken, holy heathen Would teach me how to bow my head and pray. Old soldiers and Gypsy women, Bikers with the wind in their hair, They're among these hurting, healing people. I found some of my missing pieces there. They partied like there would be no tomorrow. They'd been places it was doubtful there would be. They came to light a candle for the boys from Viet Nam, For the prisoners, the MIA's, and me. I walked beside these unknown living legends, They led me to a place where I could feel. With whisky, prayers, and rock and roll, and madman celebration, Their broken hearts showed me that I could heal. Old soldiers and Gypsy women, Bikers with the wind in their hair, They're among these living, dying people, I found some of my missing pieces there. On Sunday they packed up their bikes and headed home to "normal" That thin line between sanity and hell. These people who have bled, and died, and lived to serve our country, I tell you man, they hide their scars quite well. And as I left I paused there at the candle burning brightly, To bow my head once more and say "goodbye" I can't say I'll live through this war that rages on inside me, But now I know I'm damn sure gonna try! Old soldiers and Gypsy women, Bikers with the wind in their hair, They're among these living, dying people, I found some of my missing pieces there. Full speed ahead, Let the journey begin, Spemer paratus, Semper fi, Be all that you can be, You're damn right! Copyright Jodi Jarchow (AKA American Gypsy) 2001. All Rights Reserved |
