John Herring Location: Manchester, UK
Raised on an estate in Salford, UK, in a household where music from The Beatles to Tchaikovsky was played it is safe to say that John’s influences have been many and varied.
He spent his early years destroying turntables through overplaying and by the age of 11 decided that the equally destructive tuba should be the next piece of musical kit to master. After 6 grades and a realisation that the tuba wasn’t where contemporary music was at John picked up the bass guitar, but three years later moved onto the acoustic guitar and began writing music.
Over the years John has periodically moved away from and returned to his own music both as a source of catharsis and inspiration. In 2007 John decided to make a commitment to writing, performing and releasing his music and following an increasing number of gigs he has released ‘Unobtrusive’ - a six track EP - in September 2007.
John says, “My music is about personal truths. I can only write from personal experience – I have always been much better at getting involved than sitting back and watching. I hope that my music expresses that with integrity.”
