Welcome to my site and my project! Like many of us, I've always had 'songs in my head' but lacked the knowledge or equipment to bring those ideas to reality. I'm a busy artist, visit my website at www.Artsbit.com the home of the TIBSTRA ART STUDIO in case any of you need album covers. love hockey, the Chicago Blackhawks, portrait art or spirited discussions. My wife keeps me running, too-so I had to try to develop my music as a hobby. The challenge was to buy the instruments and recording equipment for $1000 or less, and in a year, learn to use those instruments to begin recording songs. My biggest problem? I'm way too hard on myself and wanted 'radio ready' music, which I was told just couldn't be done in a home studio. My next problem was that my own voice is, to be kind, 'limited'. So, after lots of research I bought my equipment. As a way of any reader benefitting from my long research I'll plug the stuff that I found to be the best value. The guitars are an Agile (Les Paul copy) and an Austin (acoustic electric). A used Yamaha GS series keyboard and a really fun Ion drum kit, along with a Digitech RP80 modeling guitar processor round out 'my band'. The heart of it all is my Lexicon Omega mixer which came with an Apex microphone. Run all of this through my old HP desktop computer running XP and monitor the sounds through Pansonic headphones (monitor speakers would've taken the budget all by themselves!) and there you have it!
Less than a grand for nice sounding and playing equipment. I'd hum my tunes into my cellphone's voice record and write lyrics for them (I haven't learned to read music yet!), and practice the instruments whenever I had a little free time. They were all fun in there own way! Recording and engineering.....now that was a challenge. If anything, I'm most proud of the technical quality of my recording and mixing. The one positive about being'your own band' is that there are no egos to bruise when mixing and editing.
So I hope you listen to the songs and if there's one you like and you catch yourself thinking, "I could do a great guitar solo for this part" or "man, could I do a better job singing this song" DO IT! If you can send me a wave or mp3 file of riff's or vocals I'll either pull out my humble work or layer yours over. The one positive thing about being you own producer is that you want the best final product, whether it's your performance or one from someone else!
Thanks for stopping by!
