| TALKING TO THE WIND Talking to the wind like it had something to say Like a great big speech on the tube that everybody listened to Today Mesmerized by what I heard I wanted to take a walk Around the entire world like I had no obstacles In my way Down past the store where I bought some cigarettes A man was preaching Jesus to a crowd that looked on And I took a place in the back Hoping no one knew my face I heard him talk of love and of the golden rule Something I learned in Sunday school when I was So young I started to think of how I spent my life since I was ten A cold realization fell over me just like A gun I didn't know what I should really do So I said a prayer to something that I didn't understand And I turned away to walk Down the street and start my journey Come down from the spyres Stop talking to the gargoyles They don't listen anyway Be there and be willing To give the strength in your hand However small it may be How may roads? Place one foot in front of the other And wonder just which way to go How many roads? Taking only one step at a time Keeping my eyes on the signs How many roads? I ignored the wind and I looked to the sun Standing like a sentinel in between all The blue sky Then I lit my smoke and I turned down the street Feeling something like a brand new born peace In my eye | |
