| BENEDICTION WITHOUT WORDS (November 13, 1994) I met her in the twilight She was sitting alone Soft wet look in her eyes I crossed in front of her moonbeam yeah I sat down next to her And asked what her name was She wouldn't say anything at all And she reached into her pocket And pulled out a piece of crumpled paper And she handed it to me And finally she said "It was something that I wrote when I was young" And the sadness in her voice Made me hesitate a moment I wasn't sure that I wanted to see There in the moonlight we sat With these words written very so long ago It was difficult to read the words Penned and carried with her In the moonbeams where we sat alone And I looked to her and saw Her eyes were pleading to let go And I cleared my throat just one time Held the paper up to the moon So I could read between the lines Didn't know what I Was getting into any way "I sat and waited up all night for you And I prayed to Jesus, God and the stars above For you to come back home "I sat and waited up all night for you And in the fury of the moment I burned The roses you first gave to me "I sat and waited up all night for you And my heart ached with hate My tears streamed resentment and I wished that you were dead "I sat and waited up all night for you And before the call in the early morning I saw your ghost blow to me a kiss And you were gone You were gone And you were gone You were gone And the night had fallen Strong along the place where we sat I handed the paper back to her I just left her there A benediction without words I just left her there A benediction without words | |
