Melissa Otero
 Location: New Jersey

Melissa is a Singer/Songwriter from Northern NJ looking for her opportunity in the music business.

Melissa has been singing since the age of 5. By the time she was 14 years of age, she began taking private piano lessons and private vocal lessons in her hometown of Yauco, PR. While in high school, she was in the school choir and also continued her vocal and piano lessons after school. In her senior year, she won the "Best Female Vocal Award" at the Luis Muñoz Marín high school "Awards Night".

As a farewell to her high school classmates, Melissa and her mother, Nellie, created her very first concert titled "Once In A Lifetime". It was a one-night-only special for anyone in her hometown who was interested in hearing her perform her music as well as songs by her favorite artists. It was a success. Over 300 people attended the concert.

In college, Melissa's major was Music Education, specializing in piano and voice. She completed two years with a 3.10 average and moved to the United States where she is pursuing her career. During her first year in the US, Melissa auditioned for Popstars 2 and the first season of the popular show American Idol. The auditions served as experience. The following year , Melissa auditioned for Best New Talent Awards where she was chosen among the top 100 singers from the nation to go to LA and sing in front of representatives from major record labels. It was a workshop as well and, during that weekend in LA, Melissa took vocal lessons with top professors. Dance lessons and other seminars were given as well.

Upon her return home, Melissa went on to perform for the New York International Music Festival. She sang at Madison Square Garden, The China Club, The Pyramid Club, The Remote Lounge and others. It was mainly an exposure event in which singers, dancers and others could perform for potential record labels or managers. Once again it served Melissa as an experience .

In January of 2004, Melissa met Dan Johnson from Arista Records who listened to her music and was very interested. Sadly, after two months, Sony Records bought Arista and they were no longer able to help Melissa with her career. By the end of 2004, Melissa met with George Brown through a friend. Mr. Brown was looking to cast the part of The Fairy Godmother for his upcoming Off-Broadway show Miyorka: A Different Kind Of Love Story. Melissa was cast and production began. After almost nine months of intense rehearsals, the show played in The Culture Project in New York City. It was a success and closed after seventeen shows.
