Back when I was young,
My life had just begun.
Like new growth in the spring.
I had so many songs yet to sing.
Mom took me by the hand.
She told me that there was a master plan.
Our life is but a stream.
A river flowing on down to the sea.

I grew fast in those days.
Sometimes so fast it all seems like a haze.
Some things I didn't know.
Like how and where my river would flow.
My mom was dear to me
With all she said some things I still couldn't see.

As phases of my life came to an end.

It was hard to see that setting sun.

In life we lose and win.
The old must pass before the new can begin.
We see change as life unfolds.
We watch as the sun sets on the old.
No matter how I try,
