You and Me Location: Santa Monica, CA
As the pre-internet home recording duo/sometimes trio You and Me, we turned to making our own music in the second half of the 80's, a lean decade for experimental and progressive instrumental and electronic music, and before the revolutionary accessibility of online music.
The band's core members were myself (RDunlap) and Dan Bartlett, with occasional guest members Steve Ferrell (guitar, bass) and my brother Frank Dunlap (sax, sampler).
We explored ambient and experimental textures with a trippy esthetic and a non-commercial attitude. Being at the cusp of analog and digital worlds, the You and Me sound was and is both vintage and forward-looking.
Sadly our collaboration unraveled by the early 90's with many unfinished recorded projects. Over the next few years, especially in 1996, I acquired and "elaborated on" many of these tracks, transferring 4 track and stereo cassettes to 8 track cassette, remixing, editing, adding new parts, sometimes combining different recordings. Dan passed away in 1998, and now these songs live in memory of him and of our friendship and creative collaborations.
