"Little Miss Sad Eyes"

INFO ON THE RECORDING OF LITTLE MISS SAD EYES

This is the second recorded version of AVALANCHE'S first single. The original single, released on January 24, 1979 on Golden Sun Records, received extensive airplay on thirteen prominent New England radio stations for over twelve weeks before AVALANCHE had ever played a public performance, and by the time that performance took place on July 2, 1979... public response to the band was extremely favorable. Over 3500 people attended the first show. (See picture) This version of "Sad Eyes" was recorded about nine months after the original band had broken up, and was recorded during the Studio Sessions that became "GOING FOR BROKE"....and eventually, COMPLETE AVALANCHE! Although the playing on the original single by the original group was much tighter...and had a different and more cohesive energy...due to nearly eighteen months of intensive rehearsals (six hours a day for six days a week)...THESE guys did a great job...recording this version after only one (1) eight hour rehearsal session. The production quality of the original record, due to inferior studio facilities combined with my inexperience as a producer, resulted in a poor mix; and so this rendition of the song, recorded in a much better studio, is much clearer, and is much more consistent with the sound quality on the rest of the album...and the quality of a live AVALANCHE show.

This version represents more closely what the band sounded like on any given night, because Avalanche performed with (4) Custom-modified, Altec-loaded, Vintage JMP Marshall Super Lead 100 Full Stacks...a 1200 Watt Customized Stereo Bass Amp setup (Charles used (2) 18' Scoop Enclosures with (2) Tiel 15" and (2) Tiel 10" speaker enclosures...one of each size, on each side of the drum riser). Avalanche also carried it's own State-Of-The-Art Sound System ...with 6000 watts of Yamaha 2200 Stereo Power Amps driving (4) JBL 18" "W" Bins... (14) JBL CONCERT 5460 Speaker Cabinet Enclosures... (6)JBL 2350 Horns with 2482 Drivers...and (4) JBL 2492 Ultra-High Frequency Horns... creating a true 4-Way system...and with a 24x4 YAMAHA Recording Board (with the entire system wired to "true stereo") controlling that PA System...complete with state-of-the art Eventide Clockworks Digital Delay Line (Harmonizer 1500) and an Eventide Clockworks INSTANT FLANGER... along with Sennheiser MD421 and MD431 and EV RE-20 and SONY Condenser (overhead) microphones...all of which were part of every single AVALANCHE performance ...consistency and record-quality live mixes were always what audiences heard at an AVALANCHE show...regardless of the venue.
