Started listening to the Allman Brothers at 5 (1969) and then Sabbath and Purple by 8 (1972). They had a huge effect on me, as well they should anybody with an IQ of over 3.3.
Took about a month of guitar lessons in 1974, but got pissed when the teacher refused to teach me Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and instead wanted to teach me "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain". That wouldn't work.
I slept from '74 until '80.
Finally in '80, I was sitting around one day with the headphones on listening to Dreams by the Allman Brothers. I had to learn it. It was (and still is) the most melodic solo I've ever heard and I had to do it. I tuned the guitar to the song. I learned it. I then realized that I could do many of the songs I wanted to do with this new bizarre "D" tuning (no - it's NOT the standard D tuning).
It's very hard for me to play a few of the songs I hear, but I can still pull it off if I try hard enough. While it may be impossible for me to pull of some solo licks, there are a lot of licks I can do that are impossible to do in standard tuning.
By '82 I was playing in a band and touring in '83 in a heavy metal band.
In '84, I went to recording school and became a recording engineer (duh), and then moved to Canada to do as such, but ended up playing in a band up there and toured all over Canada for a year.
Back to the South in '85, and then sort of did a little of everything until about '89 when I got married. That ended the touring days, but it was my decision, so......
Since '90, I've recorded over 250 songs - most of which are trash or just ideas, but I've always had fun doing that.
I'm playing everything you hear. If you throw up when you hear me sing, just don't sue me.
Have a good day and mow your damned grass!
