It's official! The Master of Gravity, DJ Axe, has declared the Apple 3G iPhone the best phone ever, and the NullRiver application "Tuner"
(available from the iTunes App store) the very best application for the iPhone. If you get this little app, and unlimited data access (really important,
unless you are independently wealthy!), you can listen to SongPlanet Radio on your phone! Axe has his hooked up to his car stereo, blasting the WSPR stream
on the roads and byways surrounding the Seattle area. Axe says "This is the single most important
development for Internet Radio to date, 'cos it truly makes Internet Radio mobile, like radio is supposed to be." And of course, what is good for
Internet Radio is good for Indie Artists!

The
DJs have chosen their "Picks of the Month"
from the tunes that were uploaded in July. All of these songs will be
played on Motmot's Featured Orbit show on Saturday, August 9, from 7pm to 9pm ET. Motmot will ferret out some inside info from the artists to pass
along to the listeners. There will also be time to play some other great tunes uploaded to the site in
July.
Congratulations
to all of the artists who made this month's list. Other artists that were named by DJs this month as having outstanding tunes were Saturday Night Saints, Prymal
Rhythm, Steve Ison, Pipe
Choir, Seeking Silence, Tarnish By
Gray, Lee Howard and Alice Sweet
Alice.
Tune
in on the second Saturday of every month to hear the latest from our amazing "Featured Orbits" lineup!

Yeah, yeah, I know. There are forums and bulletin boards everywhere. What makes the Planetarium forums different? Well, to start with
SongPlanet feels very strongly that the forums should be a place for artist support and interchange, where those with questions don't need to be fearful of
flaming or ridicule. The forums here are moderated and only open to artists (with just a few exceptions).
Got an idea, question, comment, insight, or other bon mot? Share it with the DJs and artists in the Planetarium Forums. If you've
joined SongPlanet in the last couple of years, your userid and password should be the same as your login for your artist page.

Do you
have a video on YouTube? The DJs have a page there and will be featuring
SongPlanet Artist Videos. If you have a video that you'd like to share
with us, send
us a message. Be sure to attach your video! Don't forget to put your YouTube link on your Artist Admin page, too!

Add us as a MySpace friend
if you have a MySpace page!

Do you get annoyed by music sites always asking you who you sound like? It's not an arbitrary question.
Believe it or not, the "Sounds Like" is used by a lot of people to find other artists they might like. You don't really have
to sound exactly like the Beatles or Nine Inch Nails to list them. If you think that people who like the Beatles would like your music, include them in your
Sounds Like list. What not to use? Terms like "me", "nobody", etc. That just doesn't help anyone!
Haven't got a clue who you sound like? Ask for some help in the SongPlanet chatroom or Planetarium forums. You might be amazed at what
others hear in your music!

SongPlanet artists
continue to be featured on Mike Cameo's Indies' Top 10. Congratulations this time around
to Anti-Hero, Mad Margritt, MuddSpyder, Tripping West, N.O.W. and The-N, 3 Kisses, and Steve Ison. Two bands featuring our very own Edmund Allan Brown also made the list!
Mike Cameo produces monthly shows featuring top artists from a number of sites, including, of course, SongPlanet.com. You can listen to his shows
from the Indies' Top 10 website, or download them as podcasts to play at your convenience.

Each
month in this column, we'll list new CDs by SongPlanet artists. If you have a CD that
is coming out this month or next, let us know at proartist@songplanet.com.
Be sure to include your CDBaby link if you have one.
Don't
forget to add your Launch Parties to our Gig Calendar! The link is on
the left menu on your Artist Admin page. If a SongPlanet DJ is in the area, he or she will definitely try to make it to the gig!
